AIN’T NO PARTY LIKE AN ORIGINAL CHARACTER PARTY, COS I can pretty much just draw whatever, which is awesome.
This is Danya and Tic, who will be featured in one of the comics I’m drawing (and the amazing Mary is writing) for the Asheville Comic Expo this october. For those who followed Rykani Tapestry before the website IMPLODED (and will be fixed soon), these two are from that. Or will be.
It’s another Rykani Tapestry update!
And beef jerky for breakfast, to boot!
Ooooh look at the Friday bonus page! Full of bonus-y information, and people missing bits of their body! Swag!
Thank god for Mary squawking when the new page auto-loaded. I’d totally forgotten a new one went up today o.O
I am absolutely delighted and more than a little alarmed to report that The Rykani Tapestry reached 666 hits on its first day out in the public eye.
I CHOOSE TO TAKE THIS AS A GOOD SIGN!
AHHHH. Click the image to go to the comic!
Well, here it is. LAUNCH DAY. This is the comic I have been slaaaving over with marchingjaybird for three years now, developing the story, the characters, the world, the drawing style…and then finally starting the damned thing.
SO. GO. READ. And we have a wiki, too, which is lovely! And will be updated as the story progresses!
NOW HERE’S THE THING.
This comic is my life, and my blood, and my everything, and I want people to enjoy it as I do. So here is the deal. FOR TODAY ONLY (until midnight tonight, EST), I will draw every single person that reblogs this. It may take days, weeks, months, I don’t care (I do have a comic to draw, after all). If you reblog this, I will take a look at your Tumblr, and I will draw you based on that. I may even animate a few lucky people, and I may extend this offer if I don’t get too swamped.
SO. OFF YOU GO!
Pictured: A very accurate portrait of my girlfriend on the left, and me on the right.
Just kidding. It’s not that accurate. My hoodie is actually black, and I can’t eat fast food anymore.
Sooo this webcomic that I babble about now and then officially has a launch date…
April 2nd! SO CLOSE!
It will update three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and there will be a Wiki to go along with it, choc-full of information about the characters and the world. I’ve been told I can no longer hold it back from the world, and must release it, damn the consequences. Damn the consequences!
Ahh I’m nervous. All I can ask for is that readers have faith that the art gets better past the first few truly heinous pages!
Every day I’m landscaping.. (doot doot doot do-doo-do-dooot)
Three down, ten to go! Kill me now!
There is NO reason for this post, other than the fact that we’re working rally hard on getting this webcomic launch-ready and…fuck it. Sometimes you just wanna show off. Pushing myself stylistically has been the best part of this undertaking. I am so, SO excited to launch, which will hopefully be in 3-4 weeks.
Female Comics Creators On Tumblr?
A while back, I asked for creators who identified as LGBTQ to announce themselves and promote their work in a massive thread right here on Tumblr. It got hundreds of responses and tons of links to some incredibly wonderful work, most of which has not yet received the exposure it deserves, quite a lot I had never seen before. So that was very joyful. I do hope to put some of that information to use at some point (with the creators’ okay, of course!).
Today, I would like to ask all females here on Tumblr to just chime in on a similar thread. Just announce your name, what kind of comics you work on, and if you can include links, that would be wonderful. Any extra info you want to add, feel free, I would love to see it and I’m sure others would as well. This can be for print comics, webcomics, mini-comics, even comics that are still in the proposal stage. Consider it an opportunity to raise your voice just a little…a lot of people discovered a lot of great lgbt creators in that previous thread, let’s see if we can’t do that again.
Also, hopefully this goes without saying, but the definition of ‘female’ here is completely as fluid as your own meaning of the word. No judgments, how you identify to yourself is all that matters, you are more than welcome to participate, your voice is needed, too.
The Womanthology collection recently shipped, and while I don’t yet have a copy, my understanding is that it is a stunning validation of the fact that there are multitudes of talented women who are in the industry and aspiring to be in the industry. I am hoping this thread puts another nail in the coffin of that notion that ‘women just aren’t interested in making comics.’ We know it’s not true, help us prove it once again.
Please participate, if you can. Name, a little bit about past work if it applies, and what you are working on now, and please, please include links where possible. More info is lovely but not necessary, just what you feel comfortable with.
Thank you! Spread the word!
Oh hell, did I miss the LBGTQ one? Oh well, I shall tack myself on to the lady one!
My girlfriend and I, who will no doubt also reblog this, are in the midst of setting up a webcomic. Our previous attempt (The Streets Of Porter City, for those who saw it) fell apart due to some art issues, but this new one is…well, we’re incredibly excited.
It’s called The Rykani Tapestry, and we hope to launch at some point in April. having learned out lesson with previous attempts, we’re getting together a nice backlog of pages before launching.
It’s fantasy, with a slight steampunk background, focusing on diverse characters, orientations, and races. As we’re not yet ready to launch, I can’t link to the site (and the wiki), but here is the cover!
Ooohh I cannot WAIT to launch this!
Working hard on worldbuilding for a new webcomic. I can’t remember the last time I was SO motivated on a project. Feels good man.
